Musings From Deepak @ DSG Consumer Partners #89
All things consumer & insurgent brands. What I am currently reading, thinking about, and reflecting upon. You can follow me on Twitter at @dishahdadpuri or follow DSGCP at @dsgcp.

I spent the weekend reflecting on the macro data, and the numerous conversations I have had with consumers, founders, economists, professors, analysts, CEOs, CFOs, strategy heads, money managers and a host of other intelligent people over the last few weeks.
No one can time the market or see into the future. I share my perspective in a blog piece I wrote today on why founders need to be optimistic long term but pessimistic in the short term.

This is an exciting development on many fronts. Not only are we excited to announce the latest round at Supertails, this is also the first time that Saama Capital, Fireside Ventures and DSGCP are invested in the same business. For many years, Kanwal, Ash and I have talked about what it would be like to have Saama, Fireside and DSGCP working together to help build one of India's leading consumer brands. Here we have the start of that journey.

DSGCP is a seed investor in 82°E, a new skincare brand launched by Deepika Padukone. The website went live today and e-commerce sales begin on 16 Nov 2022. See https://82e.com/.

With the SEBI approval in place, DSGCP portfolio company Sula Vineyards is moving closer towards its IPO. I invested in Sula in 2004 via my prior fund GEM India when I was testing my hypothesis that India will see 1,000s of new insurgent brands in the next 20 years. I may got the timing wrong but it is clear that Indians today and people around the globe are buying Indian brands. And guess what? We haven't even started yet.

The online search volume of beauty terms is declining. Does that mean that consumers are tired of beauty? Some very relevant insights from the experts in the space. At DSGCP we continue to see increasing deal flow in the BPC category. With so many brands being launched each week, what must founders do to stand out?
