Musings From Deepak @ DSG Consumer Partners #76

All things consumer & insurgent brands. What I am currently reading, thinking about, and reflecting upon. You can follow me on Twitter at @dishahdadpuri or follow DSGCP at @dsgcp.

Watch Viraj Bahl, CEO of Veeba, on this episode on India’s sauce industry on CNBC-TV18 with Mangalam Maloo and Ritu Singh.

DSG Consumer Partners first invested in Veeba in December 2012 when it was still at the ideation stage. Viraj and I spent a week coming up with the name “Veeba” and then a few months brainstorming 🧠 about every aspect of strategy from GTM, B2B vs B2C, what would the launch SKUs be to everything else including the location of our first factory. I remember the drive to Neemrana to visit the site.

Along the way, we were lucky to be joined on this journey by Verlinvest & Saama Capital. I look forward to each board meeting when Viraj, Rajiv Wahi, Ash Lilani, Arjun Anand and I, review performance, discuss strategy and most exciting of all, get a sneak peek into Viraj’s NPD pipeline.

10 years on and it still feels like we are just getting started!

2 of the top 3 companies out of over 1,000 entries in Amazon Global Selling Propel Startup Accelerator Season 2 are DSG Consumer Partners portfolio companies: Solethreads & GO DESi. Congratulations Vinay Kothari at Go DESi, and Sumant Kakaria & Gaurav Chopra at Solethreads.

Ankita ShethPranav Maheshwari, and Amit Damani thank you for letting us be part of your journey. DSG Consumer Partners is lucky to have met you and we are hyped to be part of the story that redefines hospitality in India.

DSGCP portfolio co Float Foods launched their OnlyEg plant-based egg Tamagoyaki to Singapore's food service industry at FHA 2022. This is the first plant-based commercially tamagoyaki available in Asia.

DSGCP has been looking closely at the RTD category but has yet to make an investment. We continue to believe that there is an opportunity to build insurgent brands in this space as consumer behaviour and occasions of consumption evolve.

Great perspective in The Washington Post and the need to use the current hype around plant based foods to start looking at more minimally processed foods and putting the plant into plant-based.
