Musings From Deepak @ DSG Consumer Partners #71
All things consumer & insurgent brands. What I am currently reading, thinking about, and reflecting upon. You can follow me on Twitter at @dishahdadpuri or follow DSGCP at @dsgcp.

Great episode on The Consumer VC with Mike Gelb interviewing Clément Pointillartas of Verlinvest. DSG Consumer Partners has worked closely with Verlinvest for over a decade and have co-invested in a number of deals including Sula Vineyards, Veeba and Epigamia. Verlinvest truly has a very long-term & unique perspective to build consumer brands that can stand the test of time.

Gagan Sharma looks back at DSGCP portfolio co Sula's journey from 1999 and what the future holds in the latest addition of Sommelier India.
Interesting McKinsey podcast discussing the biggest trends in consumer health and wellness. DSGCP already has a number of investments in the supplement space including Youvit, Power Gummies and Nutrova. As we do more work in the category, we are excited by what we see and you can expect more investments focused on personalised nutrition including vitamins.

We are still very early in the evolution of the mom & baby category in India. DSGCP invested in The Moms Co which was acquired by Glamm last year. We continue to believe that a number of existing and new #insurgentbrands will emerge to meet the demands from tomorrow's mothers and babies.

More than ever, brands need to be very careful in terms of claims they make to consumers. Today's consumers are smart and read the back of pack. They hate to be taken for a ride. Whether it is lab-processed sweeteners or a natural products like jaggery or dates, say it as it is. Insead of saying "no added sugar" just say "made with jaggery"!
